Verna L. Holoman

BIO:
Dr. Verna L. Holoman comes to North Carolina from St. Paul, Minnesota, where she served as Coordinator of Programs for Recruitment and Retention in the Life Sciences for The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. There she managed programs that focused on undergraduate research experiences and the recruitment, retention, and mentoring of students from populations that are underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics(STEM).

Prior to her experience in Minnesota, Dr. Holoman served as a Senior Academic Affairs Coordinator at the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, where she administered the Eisenhower Mathematics and Science Education Act/Eisenhower Professional Development Program. She also served as liaison to chief academic officers at several public colleges and universities and to the Virginia Department of Education for teacher and principal preparation programs, and coordinated the New Pre-service and In-service Models component of Virginia's systemic statewide initiative. She has taught at Virginia State University, Talladega College in Alabama, and other institutions. Dr. Holoman received her doctoral and master's degrees in zoology from The Ohio State University.
